Samenvatting

Het zal duidelijk zijn dat een mondonderzoek waarbij de parodontale status van een patiënt niet wordt vastgesteld, een onvolledig onderzoek is. Omdat een volledig parodontaal onderzoek voor het opsporen van plaquegerelateerde aandoeningen en de documentatie daarvan tijdrovend is, wordt bij de periodieke controle in eerste instantie gebruikgemaakt van een parodontale screeningsmethode. In Nederland en in mindere mate in België wordt hiervoor gebruikgemaakt van de Dutch Periodontal Screening Index (DPSI) (zie hoofdstuk 3).
