Samenvatting

Onder de term spalken verstaat men in de medische wereld het beperken en/of opheffen van de onderlinge beweeglijkheid van twee lichaamsonderdelen die meestal gescheiden zijn door een fractuurlijn of een geluxeerd gewricht. Dit hoofdstuk gaat over het spalken van een parodontaal ligament dat ofwel losgescheurd (trauma) of grotendeels afgebroken werd (parodontitis). Een vergevorderde parodontale afbraak kan immers aanleiding geven tot een verhoogde tandmobiliteit met discomfort voor de patiënt en/of met gevaar voor een spontane tandluxatie tijdens functie.
