Samenvatting

Angst bij kinderen wordt overmatig wanneer kinderen innerlijke prikkels en informatie uit de omgeving als gevaarlijker zien dan zij zijn. In behandelingen worden kinderen hiervan bewust gemaakt en worden zij geholpen tot een realistischer waarneming te komen. Een moeilijkheid is echter dat men zich deze waarneming lang niet altijd bewust is. Dit artikel gaat over automatische processen die bij de herkenning van gevaar een rol spelen, zowel van fysiologische als cognitieve aard. Besproken wordt welke consequenties dit heeft voor de behandeling.
