Bernard Rimland (1928–2006)

Bernard Rimland, distinguished researcher and pioneer in the field of autism, was born on November 15, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio, and died on November 21, 2006 in San Diego, California. He received the first Masters degree in psychology given at San Diego State University in 1951, and a Ph.D. in experimental psychology at Penn State University in 1954. Rimland spent his professional career as a research director and senior scientist at the Naval Personnel Research and Development Center in Point Loma, California, where he also served as the Director of the Personnel Measurement Division, the Director of the Applied Psychobiology Program, and the Director of Special Projects and Future Technologies.
