Samenvatting

Het complex regionaal pijnsyndroom (CRPS) is een pijnlijke en soms invaliderende aandoening die kan optreden in een ledemaat na lichamelijk letsel. De hoogste incidentie komt voor bij vrouwen in de leeftijd van 50 tot 70 jaar. De pathofysiologie is complex en omvat inflammatoire, microvasculaire en neuropathische ziektemechanismen. CRPS vergt vaak een specialistische behandeling, maar om latere schade te beperken is het raadzaam dat de initiële behandeling vroegtijdig door de huisarts wordt gestart. Deze bestaat uit pijnstilling, fysiotherapie en specifieke medicamenteuze therapie. Voor CRPS-patiëntendie een operatie moeten ondergaan wordt profylaxe geadviseerd. Bij een minderheid van de patiënten kent CRPS een chronisch progressief beloop, maar over het algemeen is de prognose relatief gunstig.
