Samenvatting

Een fanatieke 20-jarige voetballer krijgt liespijn die in de daaropvolgende vijf jaar zodanig toeneemt dat hij uiteindelijk wordt geopereerd. De oorzaak van het probleem blijkt een morfologische afwijking van de heupkop te zijn. Men noemt dit een cam-heup. Deze anatomische variant is niet ongebruikelijk bij mensen die tijdens hun tienerjaren veel hebben gevoetbald of anderszins hun heupgewricht explosief hebben belast. Het hoofdstuk beschrijft de casus en gaat vervolgens diep in op de symptomen, oorzaken en behandeling van deze aandoening.

De Engelse term ‘cam’ betekent nok. Een cam shaft (nokkenas) is een as die niet rond van vorm is, maar een ‘bobbel’ ofwel ‘nok’ bevat. Een nokkenas wordt gebruikt om een draaiende beweging om te zetten in een op-en-neer gaande beweging.
