Gevolgen voor therapeuten bij de behandeling van posttraumatische stress-stoornis

Abstract

Vrijwel alle 20 ondervraagde therapeuten in dit onderzoek maken melding van zowel negatieve als positieve gevolgen van hun traumatherapieën voor hun persoonlijk leven en/of voor hun professioneel functioneren. Alle therapeuten treffen voorzorgsmaatregelen om de negatieve gevolgen voor zichzelf zoveel mogelijk te beperken. Geconcludeerd wordt dat de meeste symptomen bij therapeuten normale reacties zijn op het (veelvuldig) aanhoren van verhalen over traumatische gebeurtenissen. Niettemin lijken negatieve gevolgen voorkomen of beperkt te kunnen worden. Suggesties die hiervoor gedaan worden zijn onder andere bewustwording van mogelijke gevolgen, goede training, openheid in de communicatie met collega's, en een evenwichtige caseload.
