Samenvatting

Insulinepompbehandeling maakt in toenemende mate deel uit van de intensieve begeleiding en behandeling van kinderen met diabetes mellitus type 1. In de afgelopen twintig jaar is er steeds meer ervaring opgedaan op het gebied van gebruik van insulinepompen, effecten op metabole regulatie en toepasbaarheid bij verschillende doelgroepen zoals jonge kinderen en pubers. Naast een samenvatting van de effectiviteit van pomptherapie wordt in dit artikel de huidige communis opinio weergegeven omtrent de voorwaarden en indicaties voor pompbehandeling en inzichten omtrent verschillende pompinstellingen. Tot slot wordt kort stilgestaan bij het kostenaspect van pompbehandeling en de ophanden zijnde veranderingen betreffende overheveling van kosten naar de ziekenhuizen.
