7. Kabat-Zinn over mindfulness bij pijn

Samenvatting

Fysiotherapeuten zullen mindfulness vooral inzetten voor het omgaan met of reduceren van chronische lichamelijke klachten, vooral van chronische pijn of stressgerelateerde musculoskeletale pijnen. De mindfulnessbenadering is compatibel met de moderne opvattingen over chronische pijn. in dit hoofdstuk beschrijven we de visie van Kabat-Zinn op het werken met chronische pijn. Elementen daarin zijn: pijn mede zien als feedbacksignalen die iets zeggen over de patiënt en zijn leven; ‘vluchten’ voor pijn is begrijpelijk is, maar zorgt er ook voor dat de patiënt van zijn lijf en leven vervreemdt; werken met pijn (revalideren) kan alleen goed plaatsvinden vanuit waar de patiënt nu is en niet vanuit het denkbeeld waar de patiënt hoopt te zijn. Kabat-Zinn geeft aan hoe tijdens mindfulnessoefeningen met pijn omgegaan kan worden. Bovendien laat hij zien het mindful werken rond de grenzen van het bewegen de patiënt verder helpt. Het hoofdstuk sluit af met twee verbatims over mindfulness rond pijn.
