Samenvatting
Een grote verscheidenheid aan medische diagnosen wordt gehanteerd om de klachten te omschrijven, onder meer benamingen als shin splints, periostitis, spieroverbelasting, mediale tibia stress syndroom, tibia stress syndroom. Een gemeenschappelijk kenmerk van deze beschrijvende diagnosen is dat zij geen inzicht geven welk pathologisch-anatomisch substraat is aangedaan. Het gevolg daarvan is dat de behandeling niet altijd adequaat is, wat voor sporter en behandelaar frustrerend kan zijn.
