Samenvatting

Mindfulnesstraining is in de jaren zeventig ontwikkeld als stressreductietraining en wordt sinds een aantal jaren onder andere toegepast als terugvalpreventie bij depressie. De training bestaat uit acht groepsbijeenkomsten van tweeëneenhalf uur. Het doel van de training is om van moment tot moment bewust aanwezig te zijn en lichamelijke sensaties, emoties en gedachten te observeren zonder daar een oordeel over te hebben. Tijdens de training worden onder meer meditatie en yoga-oefeningen gedaan. Een mogelijk werkingsmechanisme is het doorbreken van de vicieuze cirkel tussen depressieve stemming en piekeren. Momenteel wordt fundamenteel onderzoek gedaan naar de neurobiologische, fysiologische en psychologische veranderingen die optreden onder invloed van de therapie.
