The growing acceptance of adolescents’ voices in legal proceedings makes important the understanding of its implications in the larger picture of adolescents’ rights. Patrick Parkinson and Judy Cashmore’s The Voice of a Child in Family Law Disputes discusses these implications as it analyzes adolescents’ rights by examining the experiences of multiple actors in legal processes, including judges, lawyers, mediators, parents, children, and counselors, to offer an analysis focused on their lived experiences. By focusing on multiple actors’ perspectives, Parkinson and Cash more demonstrate the importance of better understanding the “voice” of adolescents in terms of adolescents themselves as actors, those who operate with them, and the systems that seek to preserve the health and welfare of the adolescents in ways that maximize opportunities for expression. …
