Kernpunten

  • De oorzaak van hallux valgus is waarschijnlijk multifactorieel; soms komt de aandoening familiair voor.
  • Hallux valgus moet worden onderscheiden van hallux rigidus, waarbij dorsale flexie van de grote teen pijnlijk is.
  • Conservatieve maatregelen (goed schoeisel, voetoefeningen, steunzolen) zouden de progressie van de afwijking kunnen vertragen.
  • Alleen bij ernstige pijn of hinder is chirurgische interventie aangewezen.
