Kathleen Bogle’s objective in Hooking Up: Sex, Dating, and Relationships on Campus is to detail the “hookup script” that has replaced more traditional and pre-sexual revolution dating norms on the college campus. In recent years there has been an explosion of popular media devoted to chronicling the casual sexual encounters of college aged young adults and Bogle seeks to dispel many of resulting myths and impressions about the meaning and method of the casual “hookup”. She primarily utilizes interview excerpts to reveal the intricacies of the hookup practice and the realities of modern sex and gender norms on campus. …
