Kernpunten

  • Een mucocele is een goedaardige, met slijmerig speeksel gevulde zwelling in de mondholte die uitgaat van de speekselklieren.
  • Van de mucoceles resorbeert 30–44 % spontaan binnen enkele maanden.
  • Ervaren huisartsen kunnen kleine mucoceles op de onderlip zelf verwijderen.
  • Indien een mucocele elders is gelokaliseerd, groter is of als er twijfel bestaat, is verwijzing naar een kno-arts of kaakchirurg geïndiceerd voor chirurgische excisie.
